**1/7/19 UPDATE** The total continues to see sharp action here in Las Vegas and now sits as low as 57.5 here in most shops.

The 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship pits arguably two of the best teams in the Nation yet again as Alabama and Clemson collide on collegiate’s biggest stage for the third time in last four years.

The boys here in the desert currently are offering Alabama as -5.5 point favorites (down from an opening of -6.5) with an over-under total hovering at around 59.5 points (down from 61).

The money line number is asking a lay of -220 for those looking to back the Crimson Tide (if your not inclined to factor in a point spread in your wager) while the Tigers offer ‘dog bettors a +190 return for every $100 on the Tigers to take Nick Saban’s Tide out for the 2nd time in 3 years with a title on the line.

Alabama (14-0 SU, 9-5 ATS), will be making its 7th appearance in a title game in the last 10 years—coming in fresh off beating Oklahoma 45–34 in the Orange Bowl—where they failed to cover the 14 pt spread for their backers (we weren’t very happy about being ‘back door’d’ late here at VW). Vegas Whispers members know a play we have backed all season and that has ALWAYS enabled us to return to the window to cash our tickets—can you guess it?

OK I will remind you—its Alabama first half versus the number! The Tide are perfect this season vs the first half number–covering by more than 11 points per game on that wager–absolutely destroying the Vegas books. For those wondering, the Vegas oddsmakers have hung a line of -3 for the 1st half number for Monday Night.  Nick Saban (141-20 SU) will be looking to capture a record-setting 7th national championship when the two teams square off on Monday night.

The Vegas Sportsbooks have made the Crimson Tide the favorite a whopping 53 straight times they have gone to battle in-between the white lines. Before that– back in October of 2015 Saban’s crew had been favored in 72 straight games but Vegas made them a 1 pt underdog going into Athens in a game that saw then #13 Alabama take out then #8 Georgia handily 38-10. For those who dont remember Tide running backs Derrick Henry (148 yds & TD) and Nick Chubb (146 yds +TD) squared off in that one and I think maybe you have heard of their names playing on Sundays at the next level? I think those who just finished playing in the FFToolbox Fantasy Football World Championship (FFWC) Playoffs sure do!

Clemson (14-0 SU, 8-6 ATS) crushed an overmatched Notre Dame squad 30–3 in the Cotton Bowl (in a game Vegas Whispers was all over) to advance for the right to play in the National Championship game come Monday evening. Dabo Swinney (115-30 SU) has helped the Tigers become a five-time ACC Champion and has locked horns with Saban three times with everything on the line and come away with one Title to his credit.  As one of the top teams in the country its is rare that Clemson backers get the Tigers in the role of underdogs and are 18-10 ATS when the Vegas boys allow Swinney to be catching points—winning 12 of those games straight up.

Alabama Heisman Trophy winner QB Tua Tagovailoa will be looking for his second straight MVP trophy in the Championship game after earning it last season coming off the bench to rally the Tide over Georgia. There may be value on Clemson freshmen QB Trevor Lawrence who will have a great chance to take home that honor at plus money should his Tigers pull the upset. Nick Foles anyone? In a game where points should be a plenty its most likely the QB who will earn the honors as we have seen last two years with the aforementioned Tagovailoa and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson in 2017.
