The 2019 NFL Wild Card Playoffs first game on Sunday features the (12-4) LA Chargers traveling to Baltimore to take on rookie sensation Lamar Jackson and the (10-6) Ravens. The Ravens were as high as -3 (-120) early in the week but Chargers support at the window has brought the number down to near some -2.5 around town here in most shops this morning.  The boys here in the desert expect this to be a defensive struggle and points to be at an absolute premium with a total on the board set at 41.5. This should be the lowest scoring game of the weekend when all is said and done.

This will be the second time in three weeks these two teams will be meeting as the Ravens handed the Chargers a 22-10 defeat at LA’s Dignity Health Sports Park as the Ravens defense forced Phillip Rivers into easily his worst performance of the season.  Can Rivers finally show up in the Playoffs as he has lost 7 of 11 playoff starts?! However, even though he has lost SU he has rewarded spread backers with a 5-1 ATS record in his last six playoff games on the road. If the Chargers take care of the ball and maintain a lead can the Ravens gimmick offense win this game? NFL coaches make huge adjustments second time around and a healthier RB Melvin Gordon could be the difference here.

Chargers-Ravens Betting Trends

  • The Chargers are 7-1 ATS on the road in 2018.
  • The Ravens are just 1-5 ATS in last six games at home and only 3-5 ATS overall at M&T Stadium in 2018.
  • Baltimore is 6-1 SU in its last seven playoff games with the UNDER cashing in last five straight. The Ravens are just 2-3 ATS in those last five.
  • Los Angeles is 4-7 SU in postseason games with Philip Rivers at quarterback.
  • The Chargers are 5-1 ATS in their last six playoff games as road underdogs.

Philadelphia Eagles (9-4) at Chicago Bears (12-4)

Date: Sunday, January 6, 2019

Time: 4:40 pm EST/ 1:40 pm PST

Location: Soldier Field – Chicago, IL

Spread: BEARS -6.5

Total: 41

Public (Spread) Betting Percentages: EAGLES (44%)  BEARS (56%)

Closing out Wild Card Weekend Sunday afternoon, NFL bettors get Nick Foles and the defending Superbowl Champion #6-seed Philadelphia Eagles as +6.5 point underdogs taking on the NFC North Champion Chicago Bears. The total opened here in Vegas at 41 and has since seen slight uptick to 41.5.

This is a different Foles led Eagles team than the #1 seed we saw in last years tournament. The Eagles shut out the Redskins 24-0 last week and needed help from these very Bears to take out their NFC North Minnesota Vikings to earn the final Wild Card berth. The Bears obliged and sent Cousins & Co home for the winter and now by virtue of winning in Week #17 give us this matchup at hand. The Eagles relished & thrived last season in this very underdog role but can they make the same kind of run this year?

The Bears season became special and have given us NFL fans memories of the old ‘Monsters of the Midway’ following the acquisition of star LB Khalil Mack via trade with the Oakland Raiders.  Mack has been an impact player the moment he put on the Bears uniform and has helped hide the deficiencies of QB Mitch Trubisky. With this kind of defense Trubisky will be asked to be more a game manager relying on the short passing game and the running game led by Howard & Cohen—but most of all just not turn the ball over. The Ravens followed this formula back in 2000 with a Ray Lewis led dominant defense and Trent Dilfer at the helm under center. The Bears have been a cash cow for their backers covering the Vegas number in 16 of their last 21 games.

Eagles vs Bears Betting Trends

  • The Eagles are 2-0 SU and ATS in their last two matchups with the Bears.
  • Chicago is 7-1 ATS at home in 2018, going 4-0 ATS overall in their last four games.
  • Philadelphia has gone 3-4 ATS in road contests this season.
  • The Eagles have gone 6-2 ATS in their last 8 playoff road games.
  • The Bears are 16-4-1 ATS in their last 21 games.
